Obituary

Hazel Lee Wendell Mrs. Hazel Lee Wendell, 91, of Carolina Inn, Fayetteville, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Wendell was the daughter, wife, and mother of a military man. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Col. Perry F. Wendell, her parents, a brother, and a sister. Known to family and friends as "Grandmother," Mrs. Wendell was a devout Christian and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a leader and passionate advocate of Child Evangelism Fellowship for more than 60 years. She was also a Sunday school teacher and an avid supporter of USO, the Salvation Army, and Army veterans. Mrs. Wendell is survived by a daughter, Mary Lee Ostien of Houston; two sons, Daniel C. Wendell of Christiansburg, Va., and Roger P. Wendell and wife, Julia, of Fayetteville; two granddaughters, Jenny Gardner of Houston and Heather Mason of Spring Lake; and four great-grandchildren, Michael, Jason, and Joey Gardner of Houston, and Samantha Mason of Spring Lake. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 3, 2012, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Fort Bragg Post Cemetery at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship Inc., Sandhills Chapter, 762 Cypress Road, Cameron, NC 28326. Arrangements by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 3, 2012, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Fort Bragg Post Cemetery at 11 a.m.
