White
December 30, 1921 – August 26, 2016
Helen Babin White, 94, of Fayetteville departed this earth on Friday, August 26, 2016 after an illness of several months. She earned her RN degree at St. Anthony College of Nursing in Rockford, Illinois, Class of 1942.
Helen served in the US Navy medical corps, a surgical nurse at Highsmith Rainey Memorial Hospital and Cape Fear Valley Hospital, and as a Private Duty Nurse to many in the Fayetteville and surrounding areas.
She was a dedicated member of St. James Lutheran Church in Fayetteville since 1956. She was a member of the Sarah Circle, Quilting Ministry, Altar Guild, and volunteered in many other ministries within the church and in the Fayetteville community.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles J. White, and infant daughter, Kathryn Susan White. She is survived by her four children, John Charles White of Proctorville, VT. David M. White of Jackson, MS, Patricia White Allen of Greenville, SC, Jan White Dillon, and her husband Scott of Elon, NC. She has four grandchildren, Jennifer W. Tahiraj of Boston, MA, Scott Allen of Greenville, SC, Laurel W. Riley and her husband Dan of Nashville, TN., Christopher Dillon of Raleigh, NC and Palmer Dillon of Seattle, WA. She has one great-granddaughter, Kiara Tahiraj of Boston, MA.
The family wishes to extend special gratitude to the pastor and congregation of St. James Lutheran Church, the nurses and staff at Carolina Inn, Hospice 3 and especially to Jean Brown and Angela Corbett for their exceptional and loving care of Helen White.
The Rev. John Locke will lead a celebration of life service at St. James Lutheran Church on Sunday, August 28 at 2pm.
Visitation will immediately follow in the Service Center.
A private family service of interment will be held at a later date.
