FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Helen Wells Wingard, 81, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, in UNC Hospital.
She was born May 19, 1932, in Rock Hill, S.C., to the late Wardlaw W. Wells and Evelyn T. Cole.
Mrs. Wingard was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star. After attending Murray Vocational School in Charleston, S.C. she worked for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company and Carolina Telephone Company.
She married James E. Wingard, where she traveled with his military career to Alaska and the Philippines. She was appointed as superior court reporter for the 12th Judicial District for the state of North Carolina and traveled to 24 counties within the state working as a court reporter.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Galatia Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Shuford White officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are her daughter, Karen Wingard Campbell and husband, James Edward Campbell; brother, James Cole; three grandchildren, Stacey Campbell Gillis and husband, Joseph Harmon Gillis Jr., Matthew James Campbell and Mark Edward Campbell; five nephews and a niece.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Wingard; son, Michael Wingard; and brother, Edward J. Wells.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, May 7, 2014, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
