Obituary

Heman H. Robinson, Jr., March 3, 2010 Mr. Heman H. Robinson, Jr., 83, of Fayetteville NC, died Wednesday morning, March 3, 2010 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. The service will be held at MacPherson Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 6, at 3 pm, with Dr. James Randall officiating, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the burial. Mr. Robinson was born in Elizabethtown NC, and graduated from Elizabethtown High School. During World War II he served in the US Navy as a Pharmacist's mate on the destroyer USS Rush and was one of the thousands of sailors in Times Square on V-J Day. After the war he graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1954, he and his wife settled in Fayetteville, where he worked for 40 years as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Winthrop Laboratories, now Sanofi-Aventis. Heman Robinson was a longtime member of MacPherson Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon, Elder, and Scoutmaster. He was recognized for his years of dedication and service to the church with the honorary title Elder Emeritus. He was active in Scouting for over twenty years, and was particularly pleased by the number of boys who achieved Eagle rank during his time as a leader. For this work he received the Silver Beaver award, Scouting's highest adult honor. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents, Heman Robinson, Sr. and Agnes Cromartie Robinson. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie Hope Robinson, of the home; two sisters, Harriett Robinson of Fayetteville, and Mary Robinson Greyard and her husband Thomas Greyard of McDonald, NC; two daughters, Anne Robinson Heflin of Clifton, VA and Mary Robinson Crews of Chapel Hill, NC, a son, Heman Robinson III of Chapel Hill, NC; their spouses, Paul Heflin, Chuck Crews, and Diana Kowal Robinson; four grandchildren, Evan Heflin, Brynna Heflin, Bonnie Crews, and Ellie Crews; nephews and nieces Donna Hope Silber, Charles Hope, Ruth Hope Case, James Hope, Alex Greyard, and Harry Greyard. Arrangements are by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MacPherson Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one's choice. \\"Well done, good and faithful servant.\\"
