Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Herman Preston \\"H.P.\\" Finks died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, in Carolina Inn at Village Green, where he had lived for the last 5 1/2years. He was 96. H.P. was born in Clinton, Mo., on Oct. 15, 1914. After graduation from Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., he married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Schweer. They had been married for nearly 65 years when she died in 2002. The couple moved to Omaha, Neb., where H.P. began his career with Standard Oil of Indiana, now Amoco Corp. H.P. served in the Navy during World War II. He then continued his business career in Omaha and later in Chicago, where he was an executive in Amoco's headquarters. Following H.P.'s retirement, the couple moved to Mountain Home, Ark., where they lived for 27 years. They were very active in First Presbyterian Church of Mountain Home, serving as elders, and in the local hospice organization, as volunteers. H.P. is survived by his daughter, Catherine Gardner of Fayetteville; sons, Mark Finks of McLean, Va., Keith Finks of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Paul Finks of Raleigh; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. H.P. will be interred in Cumberland Memorial Gardens, with a private service for family. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
