FAYETTEVILLE - Hervey Gray Davis, 90, passed away peacefully January 27, 2017 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Hervey was born on November 1, 1926 to Frank & Belle Davis. He was the fourth of seven children and was predeceased by his brothers, Charles, Leon & Robert and his sister Doris. Hervey was married to Jessie Catherine Davis for 64 years, until her passing on May 22, 2015.

Hervey graduated from Massey Hill High School. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill but left prior to completing a degree and joined the Navy. He was stationed aboard NTC in Bainbridge, Md.; Natracen in San Diego California Submarine base, and the USS Torsk in New London, Conn.

Hervey was a dedicated employee and retired from NC Employment Security Commission as a tax auditor. He was a devoted father to Daryl G. Davis, his only child. He was a long time member of Faymont Baptist and First Baptist Church serving as a deacon, on numerous committees as well as a member of the choir.

Funeral services Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park-West on Raeford Rd. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

He is survived by his son, Daryl G. Davis and wife Vicki; sisters, Kathryn Batten and Alice Edwards; grandchildren, Candis Davis Shandley and Ryan G. Davis and great-grandchildren, Davis Gray Shandley, Addison Grace Davis and Emerson Kate Shandley.
