Obituary

Cecil Hayes, 84 of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at his residence with his family by his side.

Cecil was born on October 7, 1936, in Sampson County to the late Houston Cecil Hayes and Marjorie Rich Hayes. He served in the U.S. Air Force until the death of his father.  He had a kind gentle spirit and a dry quick wit. He graduated from Massy Hill High School in 1955, retired in 1999 from PWC after 32 years of service and was a member of Village Baptist Church.

Cecil was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He had a love for animals, loved to sing and enjoyed listening to gospel music.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Village Baptist Church with Dr. Randy White and Rev. Nick Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Emma Lynn Gainey Hayes; daughter, Diana Hayes; sister, Joanne Kelley; brother, George Albert Hayes (Jeanette); nephews, Clay Campbell (Angie), Mark Kelley, nieces, Sherri Pait (Larry), Paula Bullard (Ray), sister-in-law, Margaret Melkus (Paul); fur babies, George Cecil, Miss Daisey, Cody Blackstock-Hayes, and Chloe.
