Irene Murchison Barbour, 90 of Fayetteville passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016 in Carolina Rehab. Center in Fayetteville. Irene was born in Lee, Maine on January 12, 1926 to the late Beatrice Hanscom and Levi Murchison.

Irene graduated from Lee Academy in Lee, Maine. She met her husband Marvin Barbour in Boston, Massachusets in 1944 during World War II while he was stationed there and later married in Wilmington, N.C.

Irene was a retired bookkeeper from Sears after 10 years and Kraft Foods after 30 years. She was a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church.Irene was a dedicated voulunteer at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Barbour and brothers; Everett Murchison, Larry Murchison and Kenny Murchison; sisters;Edith Wilson and Vivian Crocker.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 6. 2016 at 12 noon in Jernigan-Warren Chapel with Rev. John Cook, officiating. The burial will follow in Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Mrs. Barbour is survived by her son, Rod M. Barbour of Fayetteville and daughter, Patricia B. Phillips and husband Larry of Fayetteville; sister, Edith Wilson of Jacksonville, Florida; granddaughters, Keneen Culbreth and husband Mark and Katrina Jones and husband Mitch and great-granddaughter, Madison Culbreth.
