Irene Gail
(Croom) Propst
June 11, 1947 – June 12, 2025
Irene Gail Propst, 78, of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
Gail was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on June 11, 1947, to the late Ruby and Lee Roy Croom. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Gail spent over 59 years with the love of her life, Jack Propst, until his passing on April 13, 2025.
Throughout Jack's military career, Gail supported their family through various relocations, including a memorable period living in Germany. During their time abroad, she found purpose in volunteering with the Red Cross for over three years. Her commitment to service continued upon their return to Fayetteville, where she actively volunteered at the schools her sons attended while Jack was stationed at Fort Bragg.
Gail played an integral role in her family's life, especially during the many times Jack was away for military duties. She managed the household with grace and dedication, ensuring her children were well cared for and never lacked anything. Known for her meticulous housekeeping, Gail took pride in maintaining a spotless home and beautifully manicured yard, where she found joy in gardening and tending to her flowers.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Propst; her son, Donald Propst; her sister, Shirley Gilbert; her brother, Lee Roy Croom Jr.; her nephew, Corey Cross; and her great-nephew, Dustin Kovolenko.
She is survived by her sons, Ron Propst (Karen) and Rick Propst (Darla); sisters, Lisa Cross (Tony) and Joyce Kovolenko; nieces, Jennifer Woodyard, Virginia Kovolenko, Joyce Vassillion, Anna Lutz, Monica Kovolenko, and Wendy Moxley; nephew, Tony Cross Jr; great-nieces, Reverie Cross, Alexis Bryant, Zoe Vassillion, and Avery Lutz; great-nephews, Trace Woodyard, Tyler Gilbert, and Jordan Moxley; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gail's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
