Obituary

Ms. Irene Maas, 90, of Fayetteville, NC entered eternal life peacefully on Wednesday July 11, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 8th, 1921 in Manhattan, NY and moved to Fayetteville in 1964. Nana was a cornerstone at the Cumberland County Courthouse, where she ran "Nana's Coffee Shop" for 17 years. Customers enjoyed her signature chicken salad, pimento cheese, and hot dogs, as well as trademark Elvis memorabilia. Nana doled out free advice whether it was requested or not as she held her own "court" on a daily basis. She always said her family was her greatest accomplishment and loved them unconditionally. If her family was happy, she was happy. If Nana wasn't happy, no one was happy. She loved Elvis, NY, and preparing Italian family dinners. The family will receive friends on July 13, 2012, Friday evening from 7 to 9 at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14th, 2012, at 11 am in St. Patrick Catholic Church with Monsignor Shugrue officiating. The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. Nana was preceded in death by her parents Arthur Charles & Irene W. Seibel, and her brother, Arthur Seibel. Memories of Nana will remain in the hearts of Arthur Schmidt and wife, Linda of Fayetteville; two daughters , Janet King and Cheryl Rico and husband Rudy, all of Fayetteville; 5 grandchildren, Steven King, Brad King and wife Emily, Richard King, Aaron Rico, and David Rico; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn King and Ethan Asbury; and Elvis Presley. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Carillon Assisted Living for their love and care, the Carrol S Roberson Hospice Center for their compassion, and the 8th floor nursing staff at CFVMC. A special thank you to Dr. Sasan Araghi and his staff for years of compassionate care.
