Obituary

Mrs. Irene \\"Ourania\\" Lucian Tsalapatanis Meletiou, 97, of Fayetteville, died Monday, December 31, 2007, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held Friday, January 4, 2008, at 11 am in Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church with the Very Reverend Archimandrite Kostadinos Kostaris, the Rev. Chrysostom Manuel, and the Rev. George Vlahos officiating. The burial will follow at Cross Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Meletiou arrived in America in Astoria, Long Island, NY, in Nov. 1928. She moved to Burlington in April 1936. While there, she volunteered as a Greek language teacher. She moved to Fayetteville in August 1973. She taught Sunday School class at the Greek Orthodox Church in Greensboro. She was a member of the Philoptochos Society since 1931, having served as secretary and treasurer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loukianos \\"Lucian\\" Meletiou. She is survived by her son, James Meletiou and wife, Joan, of Knoxville, TN; two daughters, Melba Poulos and husband, Chris, of Fayetteville, and Effie Anna Bazos and husband, Alexander, of Modesto, CA; seven grandchildren, Jenny Mourounas and husband, Tom, Luke Poulos and wife, Lisa, Spero Poulos and wife, Helen, Melissa Tsongranis and husband, George, Mary Raney and husband, Andy, Andreas Bazos and wife Audry, and Michael Meletiou; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church from 7 to 9 pm Thursday evening, January 3, 2008. The Trisagion Service will begin at 7 pm.
