Jack Dale Almendarez, 67 of Fayetteville passed awaypeacefully in his home on Friday, January 16, 2015 after enduring a four yearhard fought battle from liver and lung cancer. By his side, was his loving wifeBarbara; his black lab, Shae; and the many friends who touched his life.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 20,2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. with Mike Lucas, afamily friend, & pastor Eddie Brookshire officiating. The family willreceive friends on Monday night, January 19, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. atJernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
Jack leaves behind his beloved wife of 26 years, BarbaraJohnson Almendarez; his faithful companion and dog, Shae. He is survived by histwin brother, Frank Almendarez of Durham; his God daughter Molly GriffieSanchez of Raeford, and a wealth of devoted and faithful friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and AnnAlmendarez; his brother, Ronald Almendarez and his closest and dearest friendand brother, Terry H. Williams.
Jack was a true outdoorsman who clearly demonstrated hisgreat love and respect for nature. He enjoyed fishing on the Black River inIvanhoe, N.C. He said that was the place that made him most happy. There hefound much peace and comfort as he recaptured fond ole memories from happiertimes. Jack always looked forward to the opening of hunting seasons; whether itwas Duck season, Dove season; or his favorite Turkey season, he was always upand ready to roll.
In 1963, at age 16, Jack received the high rank as an EagleScout. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1967 where he played onthe school football team. Jack played as a lineman on a team that went to theState Championship. He was honored by being chosen to represent N.C. in theNorth Carolina-South Carolina Shrine Bowl Game.
Jack worked as an independent sales representative for Jerry'sMarine Service out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for over 20 years.
Jack was the first Chairman of the Ducks Unlimited ofCumberland Co. He was a member of the Cumberland Lodge #5 Knights of Pythias.Jack was a member and was actively involved with the Coastal Tarheel Motor HomeAssociation. Through this association, he met many wonderful people who became animportant part of his life.
A very special thank you to Molly Griffie Sanchez andChristi McClelland for all the love, support and care they gave Jack during hislast days and nights. Jack loved each of them dearly.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make yourmemorials to either St.Judes Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tn. or to the DukeCancer Institute.
