Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Jacksie Tyson, devoted wife, beloved mother and sister and proud grandmother passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010. Mrs. Tyson was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Price; and sister, Martha Price of Tarboro. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, T.B. (Bill) Tyson; sons, Bryan Tyson and David Tyson and his wife, Julie; grandson, Trey Tyson and his wife, Kendall; sister, Elizabeth P. Pollard and her husband, Sam; brother, John Price Jr. and his wife, Jerry; sister-in-law, Lois; and brother-in-law, Buck Price. Additionally, she is survived by nieces, Sandra Pollard, Stephanie Lowder and her husband Rick, Jenifer Gregory and her husband, Pete, Jackie Sauls and her husband Jeff, and Jana Price; nephew, Dean Price and his wife, Teresa; and longtime neighbors, Avonell and Gray Renegar. During World War II, she worked with the telephone company to place calls for the troops stateside and even making tents for the troops, not knowing she would end up marrying one of the soldiers she was supporting. Mrs. Tyson was a faithful member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She especially enjoyed the fellowship of the Gleaners Sunday school class. Among her activities outside of the home, she served as president of Fayetteville Beautiful, during which time she made a lasting impact on the Fayetteville community by her instrumental work in the creation of the rose garden at Fayetteville Technical Community College. For many years, Mrs. Tyson worked in the guidance department of South View High School and the Cumberland County schools administrative offices. She also served as PTA president at E.E. Smith High School. Mrs. Tyson used all theses avenues, as well as a variety of others, to touch the lives of many family members, neighbors, school children, church members and just plain strangers. She was admired for her intelligence; respected for her integrity; appreciated for her compassion; and loved for being such a wonderful person. We will miss her so much. The family wishes to thank special friends, Jean Bolton and Deborah Kiburz, for their kindness to our mother and wife during her final days. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight, Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville with the Rev. John Cook and Dr. Robbie Byrd officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. in Edgecombe Memorial Park in Tarboro. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
