James (Jim) A. Strickland, 89, of Fayetteville joined his lovely wife in Heaven on Monday, December 19, 2016. He is now with her for all eternity in the very presence of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The service will be held at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, at The Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Interment will be in Cross Creek Cemetery #3 . Ron Locklear of Pembroke Family Fellowship will be officiating. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Doretha Strickland; parents, Lawrence and Hettie Strickland; brother, Bobby Strickland and his sister, Betty Lou Strickland. He is survived by his two sons, Ricky and wife Rose of Fayetteville, Don and wife Wanda of Cameron, He was blessed with six grandchildren, Anthony Strickland, David Strickland, Jonathan Strickland, Emily Mathers all of Fayetteville, Rachel Strickland and Joshua Strickland of Cameron. He also has four great grandchildren, Kylee, Ean, Landon and Lily Strickland, all of Fayetteville. He served honorably in the Navy during WWII for nearly three years as a medic. After being discharged, he began a forty year career in Radiology at the VA Medical Center, becoming Chief X-ray Technician before retiring in 1983. After retiring, Jim had many rewarding experiences while volunteering with The Eastern North Carolina Make-A-Wish Foundation, Hospice and the Airborne Special Operations Museum. He always tried to thank each person that was in uniform for their service to our country. In Lieu of flowers, his wish was for memorial gifts to be made to the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation, 2880 Slater Road Suite 105, Morrisville
