FAYETTEVILLE - Mr. James Charles "Charlie" Strickland, 83, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2015, at 3 pm in Northwood Temple with Dr. John Hedgepeth presiding. The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 to 3 pm at the church.

Charlie worked for the Cumberland County Sheriff Department as a Deputy Sheriff before retiring; he also had worked for Coble Dairy and the Fayetteville Observer; and had served in the US Army.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Riddle Strickland; daughters, Elaine Kelley and husband Jack Kelley, Jr. of Linden and Becky Spell of Fayetteville; brother, George Strickland of Fayetteville; and 2 grandchildren, Brad Spell and Turner Kelley.
