Obituary

James Daniel "Dan" O'Berry, 54 of Fayetteville, NC departed this life July 19th 2016. Dan was a loving husband, son, father, brother, grandfather and loyal friend. He was born August 14th 1961 to the late James Lewis and Barbara Ann O'Berry and spent his childhood in Clermont, Florida. He married his devoted wife, Denise, on December 29th 2007. Dan Joined the military on November 30th 1983 and retired after 20 years serving his country.

He is survived by his wife Denise; his mother, Barbara O'Berry; son, Danny O'Berry and his wife Becka; stepson, Ian Wisnioski; and three stepdaughters, Jennifer Riley, Mandy Sullivan, and Katy Bell. He was also a loving grandfather, "Grandpa Dan", to six grandchildren, Seraphine O'Berry, James O'Berry, Nicola Riley, Jack Riley, Olivia Sullivan and Madeleine Sullivan. Also surviving are his brother, David O'Berry and sister, Lisa Dees.

Dan served proudly in the US Army Special Forces. Dan was a decorated soldier and participated in Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan in 2002. Dan was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Medal, Meritorious Unit Commmendation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Services Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, Master Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, and the Royal Australian Army Parachutist Badge. After retiring Dan continued to work as a training instructor teaching the satellite communication portion of the Special Forces Qualification Course at USAJFKSWC.

Dan was an active member of the Fort Bragg Harley Owners Group and Special Forces Association. He enjoyed spending time with Denise and their friends, taking road trips on their Harley, and watching NASCAR with his racing buddy, Erick Quinones.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held Saturday July 30th at 1600. It will be held at the Special Forces Association Located at 4990 Doc Bennett Road in Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a contribution to the National SFA be made in memory of Dan. A funeral with full military honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
