Major James M. Davis, Sr., passed away peacefully on August 22, 2007, at Oteen VA Hospital in Asheville, NC.
He was born on March 30, 1918, in Marion, IL, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Davis of Marion. Major Davis served our country in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Ordennes-Alsace combat campaigns, with over 21 years of active military service in Iceland, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Korea, Taiwan, Japan and throughout the US. He retired at Fort Bragg in 1962. Major Davis was the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
Major Davis had a keen interest in military history, especially the American Civil War. He was longstanding member of Woodmen of the World, and in retirement was a volunteer in the Humane Society.
Major Davis is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ferguson Davis of Roswell, Georgia; one son, James M. Davis, Jr. and his wife, Joy, of Weaverville, NC; her sister, Loraine Price and her husband, Walter, of Marion, IL; one granddaughter, two great grandchildren and various cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, Erma and Roy Davis, his wife, Trudy Davis, daughter, Debra James, sister, Aileen Murphy and brother, Carroll Davis.
Family will receive friends at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 1:00 pm with memorial service at 2:00 pm. A military burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
