Retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer 3, James Daniel Delaney, 79, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, August 7, 2014.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2014, at 3 pm in Jernigan Warren Chapel with military honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 to 3 pm at the funeral home.
James was retired from the US Army after 24 years of service, during which time he served two tours of duty in Vietnam and he received two Bronze Stars. He was undoubtedly proud to be Airborne. Following his military career, he worked on Ft. Bragg as a civilian contractor.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Coleen Margaret 'Maggie' Girdwood.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane Lewis Delaney ; children, James Daniel Delaney, Jr., Colette Ann Folk and husband David, Cathleen Loveday and husband Jim, and David Delaney and fiance Susan Shelton ; son-in-law, Jeff Girdwood ; brother, Daniel James Delaney ; sister, Kathy White ; and 11 grandchildren, Samantha and Danny Delaney, Brenna Sweeney, Sarah and Natalie Stevens, Macie Stevens, Thomas Girdwood, and Jane, Madeline, Lily and Kate Loveday.
