FAYETTEVILLE - James L. Roberts, retired U.S. Army platoon sergeant, 76, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, June 9, 2011.
He was a multiple-wounded Army veteran of the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Leonard Roberts and Mavis Ora Alford of Willow Spring; sister, Annie R. Hobbs of Raleigh; and brother, Ray Roberts of New Hill.
He is survived by his daughters, Gloria Ball of Raleigh, Rebecca Vacanti of New York, Amy Beall of New Hampshire; son, James L. Sayers of Georgia; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Jean Carter of Fayetteville, and Betty Bradshaw of Garner; brothers, William Roberts of Raleigh, and Bobby Roberts of Portland, Ore.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
