Obituary

James Alison "Jimmy" Mixon, 89, of Fayetteville, NC went home to be with the Lord on July 19 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Jimmy was born March 25, 1924 in Okeechobee, Florida to the late Robert Lewis and Mabel Murray Mixon and was the last surviving of their nine children. Jimmy was in the Navy Seabees during World War II, and proudly served his country on the island of Tinian in the western Pacific Ocean. After the war, he returned to Jacksonville, Florida where he married the late Irma Flanagan Mixon in 1951 and lived and worked there until moving to North Carolina in 2002. Jimmy was always a creative thinker and innovator. During his working days, founded Jax Utilities Construction Company, American Enviroport, Mandarin Utilities, Seth Pump, and after "retirement" in his seventies, Trees and More tree nursery. Jimmy was an active member of Glendale Community Church and later University Boulevard Church of the Nazarene. Additionally, he was was a member of the Rotary Club of South Jacksonville and a member of the board of the American Bank. Jimmy is survived by two children: Thomas Mixon and Suzanne Mixon Pinson and by five grandchildren: Seth Mixon, Sommer Mixon, Stephen St. Germain, Johanna Thoma, and Molly-Mae Pinson, as well as by many beloved nieces and nephews.
