James Edward "Pete" Melvin 85, of Fayetteville passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017. Pete was born in Fayetteville July 21, 1931 to the late Jessie Walters and Robert Carey Melvin. Pete was preceded in death by his brothers, R.C. Melvin and Henry Melvin; sisters, Mildred Hall And Viola Long; stepmother, Zola Brisson.

Pete was a member of First Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class. He was supervisor with Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for 14 years. He was general manager with Nance Vending Co. for 8 years. Pete was a retired security supervisor at Fayetteville Technical Community College and also a former member of the Fayetteville Jaycees.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church with Rev. Robert James and Rev. Ron Loftis, officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St. The family will receive friends in memorial lounge at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Melvin is survived by his wife, Betty Coley Melvin of the home; sons, John H. Coley, Jr. and wife Mary Lou, James A. Coley and wife Christie, James Eddie Melvin, II and wife Leigh; brothers, Ronald Melvin and wife Carol of St. Hedwig, Texas and Thomas Melvin and wife Susie of Eastover; sister, Nancy Melvin of Mesquite, Texas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
