James Edward Poole, 86, of Fayetteville, husband of the late Jewell Byrd Poole, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
In addition to his wife, Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Layman and Essie Anderson Poole; two sons, James Edward Poole Jr. and Robert Layman Poole; and a grandson, Christopher Ryan \\"Kip\\" Holland.
During his professional career, Ed owned and operated Poole Realty and Appraisal Associates of Spring Lake. He was a former member of the N.C. Real Estate Commission and had served on the board of BB&T.
He was a deacon emeritus at Cedar Falls Baptist Church, where he also taught Sunday school for 50 years.
Ed was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the Fort Bragg Masonic Lodge as a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a Shriner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Floyd Benfield and the Rev. James Humphries officiating. The burial will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery.
Ed is survived by a daughter, Marsha Sughrue and husband Jim of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Paige Holland of Raleigh, Allen Holland of Kill Devil Hills and Jay Poole of Fayetteville; six great-grandchildren; and his dear friends, Art and Marie Moore.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Dec. 20, 2008, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
