Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE — James B. Ward, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Ward was born May 8, 1929, in Buies Creek, and came with his family to Fayetteville as a young boy. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1947, and from Chicago Institute of Technology after a tour of duty with the Marine Corps. He was married to Peggy Louise Pauls, who preceded him in death in 1998. Mr. Ward was an insurance agent with Prudential for 35 years, retiring in 1991. An avid golfer, he played as often as he could. James was a charter member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church and was also a member of Faith Baptist Church on Smith Road in Grays Creek, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Judith; daughters, Jody Petty, Sue Fagan and husband Todd, Jamie Renkel and husband Charles, Joedy Reynolds Jones and husband Mike and Teresa E. Barnes; sons, James "Jay" Ward and wife Patricia and Jimmy Reynolds. His grandchildren are Quenton Petty, James C. Ward, Justin Ward, Scott McLaurin, Kenneth Braxton Sanders, Gabrielle and Michael Brown, Paul Abdoluand and Tristan Reynolds; and great-grandchildren are Zachary, Maxwell, Leland and Trenton Petty, J.R., Nicholas and Annabelle McLaurin, Allie Krumpler, Payton, Thierry and Sarah Ward; Andria and Ryan Jones, Michael S. and Andrew Jones and Ashley Mintz. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Faith Baptist Church, 2155 Smith Road in Gray's Creek with the Rev. Bill Allen and members officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery in his family plot. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Faith Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors after the burial at his residence, 230 Pinecrest Drive, Apt. 23 May God richly bless all who knew him and loved him. The family thanks everyone for any act of kindness shown to them during this time.The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 6pm to 8pm in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 3pm in Faith Baptist Church in Gray's Creek. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery.
