FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Army Sgt. Maj. James Henderson \\"Papa\\" Wilson, 74, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Dec, 19, 2009, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Wilson was an Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired from the Army after 29 years. He was also retired from civil service after 18 years. He attended Mount Carmel Pentecostal Holiness Church; and was a diehard West Virginia Mountaineer fan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Gary Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park with military honors.
He was preceded in death by his special friend, Tony Bordeaux; and a brother, William E. Wilson Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Brunson Wilson of the home; two sons, Richard Wallace Brunson and wife Pamela,and Herbert \\"Danny\\" Brunson, all of Fayetteville ; a daughter, Deborah B. DeCarlo; and his special son-in-law, William \\"David\\" DeCarlo of the home; granddaughter, Kiley Brunson; grandson, Kevin Brunson and wife Michelle of Hope Mills; granddaughter, Tracie DeCarlo Johnson and husband Sean and their two children, \\"Jack's playmate and friend\\" Walker David Johnson, and Pierce Christopher Johnson; grandson, Jonathan David DeCarlo and wife Amy; granddaughter Jennifer Brunson; two special great-grandsons, Noah Brunson and Kevin Jones; three sisters, Martha Venable, Brenda Hadjigeorgalis and husband Michael, and Sally Childers and husband Bruce, all of Rutledge, Tenn.; three brothers, Douglas \\"Gene\\" Wilson and wife Susan of Pageton, W.Va., Richard Wilson and wife Darlene of Roanoke, Va., and Mark Steven Wilson of Pageton; sister-in-law, Helen Beech of Brunswick, Ohio; 12 nieces and nephews; and his loyal, loving dog, Cindy-Lou.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, one hour prior to the service, at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
