Obituary

Jamie Stroup Garrison, born December 1, 1976, in Akron, Ohio, passed away at home on November 2, 2026.

Jamie will be remembered as a gifted teacher, a creative spirit, and a man whose passions brought color and joy to the lives around him. He was a graduate of Stow High School and went on to graduate from the Columbus College of Art and Design, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He shared his love of art with generations of students, teaching high school art in Ohio and later teaching art at Stoney Point Elementary School for nine years. In the classroom, Jamie gave not only instruction, but encouragement, imagination, and the kind of steady presence that leaves a lasting impression.

One of the most meaningful chapters of Jamie’s life began at Stoney Point Elementary School, where he met Katie Adams who would become his wife. Their story grew from that shared place of teaching and care, becoming a cherished foundation of his life.

Outside of his work, Jamie embraced the things he loved with enthusiasm and heart. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and a devoted Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed painting models, and he found satisfaction and pride in gardening and landscaping his yard. He was also a fan of both Star Wars and Star Trek, interests that reflected his imagination, humor, and appreciation for stories that inspire wonder.

Jamie is survived by his wife, Katie Garrison, and by his mother, Linda Kay Garrison. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother Travis and Travis’s wife, Audra; by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Carol Adams; by his sister-in-law Cara Shoulders and her husband, Shawn; and by his niece Caroline and his nephew Sam. Jamie also had a special place in his heart for his fur baby, Chewie, named after Chewbacca.  Each of them shared in Jamie’s life in a special way and will carry his memory forward with love.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Steven Garrison.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Cecilia, affectionately known as CC, his caregiver for the past 3 years.  Her kindness and devotion will not be forgotten. Also, the family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at the Healthplex, especially Jonathon and Mendez.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America at www.hdsa.org or HD Reach at www.hdreach.org

Jamie’s life was marked by creativity, devotion, and the quiet but lasting influence he had on family, students, and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
