Obituary

Entrepreneur, Trailblazer, Mother, Grandmother and Friend, Janice Adel Bunce Johnson, went to be with her Savior on Sunday, July 30th in Stedman, NC at the age of 91 years old. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Robert Lamarr Johnson, Jr. of Fayetteville, Dwight Kim Johnson of Wilson (Karen),  Emily Johnson Jones of Stedman (Mardy), and Jay Ashley Johnson of Stedman (Michelle); ten grandchildren: Kristian Kelly of Fayetteville (Chris), Mark Johnson of Wilson, Hannah Johnson of Greensboro, Robb Johnson of Wilson, Summer Johnson Jones of Fayetteville (Matt), Leah Jones of Raleigh, Natalie Jones of Raleigh, Kinsley Johnson of Greensboro , Preslyn Johnson of Greensboro , Ashe Johnson (Jessie) of Stedman; two great grandchildren: Hayden Kelly and Devin Kelly; her beloved brother: Dearl Bunce of Lexington (Shirley); countless members of the Bunce, Matthews, and Johnson Families whom she loved dearly; and Granddogs: Lola, Coco, Peanut, and Louis.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert Lamarr "Bob" Johnson and siblings: Oleta, Dorothy, Ettrice, Van, Paul, Ted, Broadus, Randall, and Howard.

Adel was born on June 4th, 1932, to Walter and Molcie Bunce of Stedman, NC. She attended Central High School and attended Campbell University. She grew up as a farmer's daughter and helped where she could on the farm but always had a passion for home design. She idolized her mother and father and the example that they set in their community as servants to others.

During a time when women didn't start businesses, Adel started Johnson Florist at the age of 19 years old out of her home. She always had a knack for floral design and was complemented by her mother and father for always making sure the home place was dressed for every occasion. After her growing business outgrew her home, she relocated her shop to the current location in Stedman, and opened another division in Autryville in the early 80s. She loved to tell the story about the purchase of the property in Stedman, and how God laid out the path for her to build the current building where Johnson Florist sits today. Adel designed countless floral arrangements for all occasions, and thought of her business as a ministry to the community. She rejoiced with customers as they celebrated birthdays and anniversaries and grieved with families in times of sorrow. She met so many faithful friends through her business and thought of her customers as her extended family. She witnessed to them, encouraged them, listened to them, helped them in times of need, cooked meals for them, gave them advice when needed and most importantly led by example in the community.  She also operated a wedding chapel where most Saturdays she had three to four weddings back-to-back, and hosted wedding receptions for up to 100 people. She often said how thankful she was for the opportunity to get up and go to work every day and how blessed she was with the ability to "create" daily.  She owned and operated Johnson Florist of Stedman for 71 years and she came into the shop daily even through her sickness.

Adel was a passionate volunteer pianist for 65 years for Stedman Baptist Church where she played joyfully by ear. She played for countless funerals, weddings and anytime the church doors were open. She is fondly remembered for being able to greet church members at the side door as they exited the church while continuing to play the piano. She also served on the WMU, Hospitality committee, Vacation Bible School, as a Sunday School Teacher, on the Building and Grounds Committee, Church Remodel Committee as well as other volunteer opportunities throughout the church and community.

Granny/Gran/Nini loved all of her grandchildren dearly and participated in everything they did. She loved going to pageants, dance recitals, choral concerts, band concerts and never missed a ball game! She was a Cape Fear Colt Fan and an even bigger NC State Wolfpack Fan. She is remembered by yelling "GO BIG COLTS" AND "GO BIG WOLFPACK" at every home game!

Adel most importantly would want to be remembered as a faithful Christian. One of her most favorite verses was Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it". It was her life's mission for her family and all that knew her to see Jesus through her and to trust Him as their Savior.

Adel would want her service filled with all of her favorite flowers.
