Jean Underwood Robinson, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Jean was born June 7, 1931, in Carthage, NC.

She graduated from Flora MacDonald College with a BA degree in Elementary Education. She later went on to receive a MA degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as an Administrative Certification. After college, she worked as a teacher and assistant principal in Rockingham for four years and in the Ft. Bragg school system for 32 years. She loved teaching and working with children.

Jean was a loyal member of Highland Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, Stephen minister and Sunday School teacher. She was a beloved member of the Emma Lee Howie Sunday School Class and Circle Number 6 at the church. She also received Honorary Life Membership in Women of the Church. Together with her late husband, Bill J. Robinson, she started and sponsored an ongoing bi-weekly bridge group at the church. Jean loved music and was an enthusiastic member of the church Chancel Choir and the Handbell Choir.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Sherwood Underwood and Margaret Brown Underwood; her husband, Bill Jones Robinson; her son, Mark Brown Robinson; and brother, Charles Underwood. She is survived by her son, John Robinson and his wife, Betsy, of Durham; daughter, Kathryn Powell and her husband, Scot, of Asheville; five grandchildren, Sarah, Emma, Lauren, Nicole and Mark; three great-grandchildren, Lyla, Lucas and Eliot; niece, Mary Ann Hurych and her husband, Larry; and a cousin, Claude Underwood.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highland Presbyterian Church Food Pantry or the church music program.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Highland Presbyterian Church.  A reception will be held after the memorial service in the Fellowship Hall.
