Jim Henry
Hobbs
June 6, 2016
FAYETTEVILLE - Mr. Jim Henry Hobbs, 88, of Fayetteville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 6, 2016.
Jim was born October 6, 1927, the youngest and last survivor of 14 children of the late Calvin and Callie Hobbs.
He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. In 1950, Jim married the love of his life, Evelyn; together, they enjoyed 64 wonderful years.
Jim was a devout Christian. He was a member of several local churches before becoming a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and as a deacon. He was a strong spiritual leader to all and shared the importance of salvation with everyone he encountered. Following the teachings of Christ he had a spirit of giving and forgiveness.
Jim had worked several jobs in sales before he found his true calling as a realtor and general contractor. With Evelyn by his side, they started Hobbs Realty and Construction in 1960. Over the years, he built numerous homes and 5 local churches (including New Hope Baptist church which he helped found) before he retired in 2001.
Jim's passion for Christ, his tremendous work ethic, and his charitable nature of helping those in need is something he instilled in his children.
He believed in breaking bread with people and he truly loved both the food and the fellowship.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 2 pm in New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Dock Hobbs and Pastor Wesley Pritchard presiding. The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park.
Jim was preceded in death by wife, Evelyn; and a granddaughter, Kim Mims. He is survived by his son, Jimmy L. Hobbs and wife, Leslie, of Fayetteville; daughter, Donna Lynn Mims and husband, Freddie, of Fayetteville; 3 grandchildren, Beth Ray and husband, Terry, Marsha Murphy and husband, Lawrence, and Lauren Hobbs; 2 great-grandchildren, Chase Dew and Kenny Murphy; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home.
The family asks that memorials be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 3675 Rosehill Road, Fayetteville NC 28311.
"Jim, Evelyn, and Jesus, together forever. We love you Dad and Grandpa"
