On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Jimmy Stoney McKnight passed away after a brief illness at the age of 83. Jimmy will be reunited in heaven with his wife of 50 years, Magdelana Erika McKnight.
Born in Florence County, SC, Jimmy was the son of the late Marion Francis McKnight and Elizabeth Dorease McKnight. Jimmy retired after more than 20 years in the US Army and was a Vietnam veteran, earning, among other awards and commendations, the Bronze Star. He also served for a time as a US Army Recruiter and as an advisor to the North Carolina National Guard. He also retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation where he worked on many roadway expansion and upgrade projects in the Fayetteville, NC area, including Skibo Road. His most beloved pastime was fishing with his wife Erika in both North and South Carolina and spending time with family. His wit and strength of character will be fondly remembered.
Jimmy will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jimmy Dean McKnight, Jamie McKnight, and Christine McKnight Hughes. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Michael, Kendall, Mason and Cooper McKnight and Lindsey Hughes and by his great grandchildren, Selah Hughes, and Owen and Oakley Robbins. Jimmy will also be lovingly remembered by his brothers, Henry and Glenn McKnight, as well as by his sisters, Vonne Stone and Marilyn Tilton. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wardy, John, Roger, and Dan McKnight and his sister, Doris Ann Denis.
A Service of Remembrance will be held Sunday January 19, 2025, at 151 E. Friendfield Road, Coward, SC at 1:00 PM. Interment with full military honors will be February 24, 2025, at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at Noon.
