Fayetteville, NC- Mrs. Joanne N. Digby, 68, passed away on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center in Fayetteville, after a year long battle with lung cancer. Joanne Nolan Digby was born in Kingsville, MD on July 15, 1942, to the late Joseph E. Nolan and Mildred G. Nolan, both of Kingsville. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Digby; her son, Brian Digby, both of Fayetteville; her daughter, Lisa Digby Fox and husband, Drake Fox, of Wilmington, NC; and sister, Barbara Pumphrey and husband, Earl Pumphrey, of Edgewood, MD. At the request of the national Tourette Syndrome Association, she organized the North Carolina Chapter and established regional support groups for individuals with TS and provided current research literature to school physiologists and pediatricians across the state to improve recognition and diagnosis of TS. Joanne Digby developed a passion for quilting and joined a local weekly class to improve her skills and learn from other members of her quilt class. Joanne loved to practice her craft and her quilts are treasured by her extended family. She will be greatly missed by her family, her neighbors and her many friends. Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 6 pm, Friday, March 4, 2011, at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow.
