John C. Pate (Personal Page) John C. Pate, 81, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at his home. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1950. He was employed at Home Federal Savings and Loan for 36 years, where he served as president and chief executive officer for 16 years and served on the board of directors for 29 years. Mr. Pate was active in civic work, serving as president of the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club, Methodist College Foundation, Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce and Fayetteville Area Health Education Center. He served as vice chairman of the Cumberland County Hospital Authority, secretary of the Fayetteville Airport Commission and treasurer and chairman of the board of trustees of Haymount United Methodist Church. Mr. Pate was the recipient of the E.J. Wells Cup from the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club for outstanding civic contributions and the Realtors Cup Award from the Chamber of Commerce for community service. He is survived by a daughter, Katherine Pate Pugh of Fayetteville; a son, Stephen Ford Pate of Las Cruces, N.M.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. A private service will be held at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake by the Rev. Woody Wells. Memorials may be made to a charity of one
