John Stanley Schmidt, Sr, USMC, US Army (Retired) who was born Nov 10, 1923 to Anna Oelgart Schmidt and John Joseph Schmidt in Wyandot, Michigan and grew up in Newark, NJ, died November 7, 2010 at his home in Fayetteville. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nedra Johnson Schmidt and their children, Jeanie S. Cottingham and husband Tom of Charlotte, John Stanley Schmidt, Jr and wife Kathy of Lillington, James D. Schmidt and wife Debi of Fayetteville, Mona Arnold and special friend Sonny Walsh of Fayetteville, Conne S. Moore and Husband Don of Fayetteville and Paul Schmidt of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by a sister Delores S. DeFilippo and a brother Peter Donald Schmidt of New Jersey. 11 Grandchildren & 8 grandchildren. He was unique in that he was a veteran of three wars, WWII, Korea & Vietnam. We will miss his many talents, especially in art & music and his sense of humor. Visitation is planned for Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the home. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery is scheduled for the spring. in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Leukemia Society, Toys for Tots or Fayetteville Animal Protection Society (FAPS).
