John Townley “J.T.” Sinclair, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, love, service, and kindness that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

J.T. proudly served his country in the United States Army for 22 years, retiring with the rank of Captain. His dedication to his country was a reflection of the strength, commitment, and sense of responsibility that he carried throughout his life.

After his military service, J.T. found great joy in the simple pleasures of home and family. He especially loved living on the lake, where he could spend his days fishing and watching the wildlife around him. Ducks, herons, and ospreys were a welcome part of his everyday surroundings, and he took great pleasure in simply being outdoors and enjoying nature.

J.T. was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, never asking for anything in return. He was loving, generous, and dependable, and his kindness touched the lives of many people.

He also enjoyed the harvest and the work that came with it—picking sweet potatoes and blueberries and canning tomatoes. These simple traditions brought him happiness and created memories that his loved ones will treasure for years to come.

J.T. is preceded in death by his wife Sue W. Sinclair; daughter Valarie G. Hoskins; and brother Jackson M. Hoffman, Sr.

He is survived by two sons, Tony Sinclair and Michael Sinclair; stepson William J. Hoskins; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 2, 2026, from 1 pm to 1:45 pm at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at 2 pm in the church cemetery.
