Obituary

John Lee Tyndall, 75, of Fayetteville passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Highsmith Rainey Hospital with his family by his side.

Johnny was born on December 18, 1947, in Cumberland County.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran who served in the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart. Johnny continued serving his community with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department for 47 years until recently when his health would not allow. He lived a life of serving others and was a pillar in the community.

In 1966, Johnny began working with the family heating and air conditioning business, where he continued up until recently. He was an active member of Judson Baptist Church.

Johnny and Janice loved traveling, and he always had to do the driving. When their children sent them on a cruise for their 25th Wedding Anniversary it started a love for cruising, and they became Gold Members with Carnival Cruise Lines.

For 15 years the family enjoyed weekends at Ocracoke, where Johnny loved to surf fish.

Johnny was the happiest when he was riding his grandchildren on his tractor.  He especially enjoyed his pig-pickin's with friends and family.  He was a loving son, husband, brother, father, uncle, papa, and friend to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Brewer Tyndall.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice Raymes Tyndall; sons, Ricky Raymes and wife Lynn, Steven G. Tyndall and wife Ariana, Michael C. Tyndall and wife Angi, Robert Earl Tyndall; special daughter-in-law, Chrissy Tyndall; mother, Emma Worthington; brother, Hervy Tyndall; sister, Molly Barfield; grandchildren, Lauren Murray, Emily McLauchlin, Allison Eller (KG), Haley Tyndall (Joey), Aaron Long (Alisyn), Stephanie Tyndall (Charlie),Kai Heavy, Patrick Heavy, Gage Lee Tyndall, Ethan Long; great grandchildren, Peyton Eller, Aspen Long,  Asher Eller and numerous other nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.  A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Judson Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Brookshire officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park with honors provided by the Sheriff's Department.
