Mrs. Johnette M. Adcox, 76, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was born on February 16, 1933 in Cove City, North Carolina to the late Oscar and Bessie Moye.
Mrs. Adcox was a loving homemaker and mother, and worked as a sales clerk for Fleishman's Department Store for several years.
Mrs. Adcox was a long time active member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, was youth director, Christmas play director, and a member of the Presbyterian Women of the Church. She was also a member of the Vander Fire Department Ladies Auxillary for twenty-one years, and was awarded Lady of the Year in 1975.
Mrs. Adcox is preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Adcox, and sisters, Betty Howell, Georgia Marshall, and Dorothy Turnage.
She was known as \\"Miss Johnnie\\" to many friends, \\"Aunt Johnnie\\" to many family, Grandma to her grandchildren, and Me-Ma Gammie to her great-grandchildren. She dearly loved them all and cherished the time she was able to spend with them.
She is survived by Joe Lawrence of the home; her son, Ray Adcox and wife Susan, of Dunn; two daughters, Susie Phillips and husband Jack, of Eastover, and Kay Lovick and husband Cliff, of Wade; grandchildren, Jeffrey Phillips, Jennifer Crumpler and husband Chris, Rita Parrish and husband Brandon, Jonathan Phillips, Lindsay Wellons and husband Jason, and Jasie Lovick; great-grandchildren, Drew Phillips, and Sadie and Jamey Parrish; and sister, Jean Snead of Virginia Beach, Va.;
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 1 o'clock p.m., at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home, immediately followed by the funeral service at 3 o'clock p.m. in the chapel.
Mrs. Adcox will be laid to rest in Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery beside her husband, J.C.
