Joseph "Joe" Edwin Phillips, 75, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Joe was born October 25, 1939, in Liberty, NC to the late Harvey and Edna Phillips. Joe graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a B.A. Degree in Physical Education. He was employed as a History teacher and an Assistant Football Coach as well as the Girls Basketball Coach at Gibsonville High School in Gibsonville, NC. After a few years teaching, he joined Kraft Foods where he enjoyed a 35 year career as a Territorial Manager in Institutional Sales. He was a member of Gardner's United Methodist Church for 43 years, happily serving the church. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Gardner's United Methodist Church with burial at 4:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Methodist Church Cemetery in Greensboro. Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Snyder Phillips; son, Joe Phillips and wife Sharon of Greenville; daughter, Jennifer Phillips of Fayettevile; He is also survived by his brothers, Jack Phillips of Reidsville and Donald Phillips and wife Patsy of Greensboro; as well as nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, July 10, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
