FAYETTEVILLE - Joseph Allan McArthur, 85, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in the home where he was born in 1924.
He was a life-long member of MacPherson Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He later worked as a farmer, then salesman before establishing a home construction business, which he and his wife operated together.
A graveside committal will be held Friday, May 29, 2009, at 10:15 a.m. in MacPherson Presbyterian Church cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Dr. James W. Randall, the Rev. Mr. Charles E. Kirkpatrick and the Rev. Mr. Samuel P. Warner officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor and at other times at the home.
He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Doris Dawson McArthur of the home; sister, Elizabeth McArthur Latchum of Jensen Beach, Fla.; nephew, Donald McNeill Stewart Jr. of Fayetteville; sons, Joseph Allan McArthur Jr. and wife Bonneta of Fayetteville, James Dawson McArthur and wife Alice of Greenville, William Jennings McArthur and wife Sandra of Haverhill, Mass.; daughter, Mary Elizabeth McArthur Warner and husband Samuel of Belmont; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
