Obituary

Joseph Leonard White Sr., 84, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, in Carolina Inn at Village Green. Mr. White was a Navy veteran of World War II and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was married to Frances White for 62 years. Mr. White worked for Pilot Life Insurance Co. for more than 40 years, and he was a member of the Haymont Lions Club and Village Baptist Church. Mr. White was born in Cove City in 1924 and lived in the Kinston area until 1958, when his job transferred him to Wilmington. He lived there until 1965, when he moved to Fayetteville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, in Village Baptist Church, with the Rev. Nick Smith officiating. Entombment will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Pinelawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Kinston. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Mr. White is survived by his son, Joseph L. White Jr. and wife Teri of Wilmington; daughters, Joyce W. Tabor and husband Richard of Chapel Hill and Candace K. White of Raleigh; grandchildren, Katie and Joey White of Wilmington, and Clay Tabor of Chapel Hill; brother, Dalton Ray White of Dover; and sisters, Minnie Ferrier of Newport and Rose Wolfrom of Pennsylvania. Flowers are accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11 S. Boylan Ave., Raleigh, NC 27603. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
