Mrs. Joyce Ann Atkinson, age 70, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Joyce was born Aug. 10, 1936, in Hoke County. She grew up in Moore County but was a longtime resident of Fayetteville. She was a homemaker and a member of Village Baptist Church. Joyce was a loving wife, a devoted mother and a friend to many. Besides writing poetry and just sitting on her front porch, Joyce enjoyed cooking for her children, grandchildren and her friends. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, Aug. 7, 2007, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville. There will be a graveside service in Lafayette Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007. Joyce is survived by her husband, Frank Atkinson; daughters, Connie and husband Lupe Ortiz of Linden, Donna and husband John Zebraski of Linden, Doris Ann and husband Gene McMurray of Fayetteville, Frankie and husband Steven Beeler of Hope Mills, and Brenda and husband Darryl Taylor of Fayetteville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Johnny and Jennifer Ortiz, Kristina and Kristopher McMurray, Kerrie Beeler White and husband David, Steven Beeler and Ashlea Taylor, all of Fayetteville; and two great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Edalgo and Layne White, both of Fayetteville. She is also survived by her only "Black Brother," Billy Bohannon.
