FAYETTEVILLE- Ms. Joyce Ann Hurd, 77, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, with her family by her side. She was born and raised in Cumberland County by the late J.C. and Annie Melvin. She spent most of her life here, raising and providing for her four children and her grandchildren. She worked for Black & Decker for 29 1/2years. She had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1986. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Bowen officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m., other times at the home. The burial will be private. She is survived by her son, Wally Hurd and wife Tania of Fayetteville; three daughters, Jodi Meadows of Linden, Charlene Bell and husband Dayton of Dunn, and Carla Hurd of the home; seven grandchildren, Wally Hurd, Sheli Thompson, Kristie Meadows, Neal Meadows, Bryan Bell, Becca Bell and Morgan Bell; eight great-grandchildren, Kody, Kaila, Gregory, Victoria, Jared, Daniel, Aiden and Katherine; and a sister, Sybil Burson of California. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Yvonne Williams.
