Mrs. Katherine Smith Beard, 88, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in Magnolias of Santee. She was a faithful member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church where she sang in the sanctuary choir, she also sang with the singing Christmas tree for 25 years. She was a Sunday school teacher, WMU director, and she started the church library. She was a member of the Fayetteville Women's Club, Lady Lions, where she served as former president. She was a board member for the Cumberland County Handicapped Adults. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. in Snyder Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. John Cook and the Rev. Wayne Ham officiating. A private burial will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Hall at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church from 1 to 2 p.m., an hour prior to the service. Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Beard and her son, Don Beard, Jr. Surviving are her daughters, Linda Beard Kay and husband David of Santee, Katherine Beard Allen and husband Greg of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Dave Kay, Jr., Jennifer Kay Bilbro, Sarah Brooke Allen, Lynn Allen Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jackson Mark Brilro and Hannah Kay Bilbro. The family would like to thank the Caring Staff at the Magnolias of Santee and Grove Park Hospice for their loving care and compassion for their mother and a special appreciation to Elaine Abraham for her daily faithfulness for our mother's care.
