Kathryn "Kathy" Leigh Chavis, 62, of Fayetteville passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at UNC Hospital.

Kathy was born on August 25, 1959, in New Hanover County.

She had a green thumb and loved designing flower arrangements for her family and friends. She had a special place in her heart for her animals. She was an educator in the Cumberland County School System for many years and retired from FTCC.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Jernigan-Warren Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2022, at Jernigan-Warren Chapel. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Kathy was preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Cox and father, Worth Herndon.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Raymond Stanley Chavis; mother, Rose Lashley Herndon; sister, Patricia Caulder and husband Darrell; stepdaughter, Debra N. Chavis; step grandchildren, Shylah Chavis and Nizaiah Chavis; nephews, Mathew Burns and Brian Caulder; a special cousin, Lorie Kelly; and her fur babies, Lulu and Charlie.
