Obituary

Mrs. Katie M. McDonald, 95, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at 10 pm. Funeral services were held Monday, September 25, 2006, at 2 pm in Jernigan Warren Chapel by the Revs. Dr. Ralph Richardson, Steve Swagger, and William Spencer. The burial followed in LaFayette Memorial Park. Born in Maxton, she was daughter of the late Daniel Arthur McLean and Charity Agnes McLean, and the widow of William James McDonald, Sr. She worked for more than 25 years at the Capitol Department Store. After her retirement, she volunteered for more than 13 years in the library of Carolina Bible College. She was a charter member of the Church of the Open Door. Mrs. McDonald was lovingly called \\"Mama Katie\\" by close family friends and her grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Katherine Marsh (Ben) of Charlotte, Billie Ann Petropulos (Michael) of Gastonia, and Grace Girton of Newport News, VA; two sons, Jack McDonald (Brenda) and Jerry McDonald (Marsha) both of Fayetteville; a daughter-in-law, Iris McDonald of Aberdeen. She is also survived by three sisters, Agnes Ray (James) of Lumberton, Ruth McLean of Richmond, and Mary Hill Newton (George) of Durham. She leaves 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Son, William James McDonald Jr. and grandson, Tony McDonald preceded her in death.
