Obituary

Mr. Kenneth Ray, 95, of Fayetteville, died Thursday evening, Jan. 10, 2013, in his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Larry Toney officiating. Burial will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. Mr. Ray was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church. In his younger years, Ken enjoyed fishing at the Outer Banks. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Barnes Ray; and a son, Kenneth Jeffrey Ray. He is survived by his son, Alan Ray and family, Ramona, Devin, Austin and Nicole; daughter, Phyllis Ray of Raleigh; two granddaughters, Noelle and Stephanie Ray; and two great-grandchildren; a sister–in-law, Keeter Lucas of Godwin; brother-in-law Ernest Mays of Louisville, Ky.; and family member, Barbara Garlick of Monticello, Ill., and her daughter Megan Tyndall of Chicago. In addition, he leaves behind his friend and caretaker, Teresa Hersey; four nieces; and two nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday in the church parlor. Visitation: 12:30-2pm, Monday January 14, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church Funeral: 2pm, Monday January 14, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church Burial: Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey St.
