Larry R. Johnson, 80, of Eastover, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Larry was born on March 30, 1946, in Harnett County to the late Charlie Jasper Johnson and Myrtle Scery Johnson.

He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea. He worked at Central Fire Station for several years before beginning a career with Roadway Express, where he retired after 30 years of dedicated service.

Larry loved to tinker and collect things. If you needed something, Larry was usually the one who had it. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes, and he loved sharing them with others. He also enjoyed camping and traveling. Known for giving precise directions, Larry trusted his own knowledge of the roads more than GPS. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Most of all, Larry loved the Lord and was a godly, good man. He was a faithful member of Lebanon Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbur Johnson, Walter Johnson, Lewis Johnson, and Carl Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Claudya West Johnson; his son, James Alan Johnson; his sisters, Sara Lounette Johnson and Linda Muhall; his sisters-in-law, Nancy West Lodge (Rich) and Debbie West Brigman (Lathur); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Lebanon Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with pastor Tommy Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care, especially nurse Taylor Matthews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lebanon Baptist Church, 332 Beard Road, Fayetteville, NC 28312, or to the American Heart Association.
