FAYETTEVILLE - Laurice Vendell Hubbard, 80, of Fayetteville, died Friday, July 1, 2011, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center surrounded by his family. Laurice was born Aug. 27, 1930, to the late Lonnie David Hubbard and Alice Jordan Hubbard. He spent his entire life in Cumberland County with the exception of his years in the U.S. Army, when he served in Germany. In 1953, he married Zula Horne Hubbard and together they built a family unsurpassed in love and dedication. Their devotion and faithfulness to each other and to God has been an inspiration to their community and to their family. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation in 1993, after 34 years of employment. He was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville and the Stedman Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hubbard is survived by his wife, Zula Hubbard of the home; two daughters, Susan Hubbard of the home, and Jane Bristol and husband Ed of Raleigh; a granddaughter, Lauren Bristol of Raleigh; a sister, Melree Tart and husband Kenneth of Fayetteville; and a brother, Johnny Hubbard of Falcon. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Britt; and three brothers, Vernon Hubbard, Fletcher Hubbard and Eldridge Hubbard. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville with Dr. John Wright Coker Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, July 4, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
