Lenwood
Rogers
July 20, 1935 – October 14, 2020
Lenwood Rogers, age 85, passed peacefully into Heaven on the evening of Wednesday, October 14, 2020, after a period of declining health.
Lenwood was an active member of the Greater Deliverance Temple Church Ministries, located in Washington, D.C., where he served as a Chairman Deacon. Lenwood was a faithful man of GOD, up until his evening transition. He was a praying man and blessed all with whom he came in contact, with his graceful smile and laugh. Lenwood praised GOD even during his later years, where you could hear him preaching or singing for the Lord in the halls of the nursing home. His nick name soon became, "Papa Lenwood", or "The Preacher" by many of the staff. Lenwood was loved dearly by all who he encountered, and his family and friends.
Born on July 20, 1935, in Rocky Mount, NC to the late George and Lossie Rogers, Lenwood was 1 of 9 children. He relocated to Washington D.C. in 1947, and began a career as a long-distance truck driver for more than 50 years.
Lenwood leaves behind to cherish his wife of 49 years, Paulette Rogers, siblings George Rogers, Jr., Alma West, Eunice Cooper, and Chester Lee. He was preceded in death by siblings Bernice Williams, Mozelle Anderson, Doretha Moore, and Grover Lee.
He also leaves behind 6 children in order as, Yvonne Rogers, Lenwood Rogers, Robert Rogers, Timothy Rogers, Leslie Rogers, and Omar Rogers, and children who precede him in death, Steven Rogers and Marcus Rogers; 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020. A private family viewing will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am; followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey St, Fayetteville, NC 28301. Masks and Social Distancing will be observed.
