FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Lois Jean Merritt, 69, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in Womack Army Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, in Lafayette Baptist Church with Dr. Brian Lee officiating. Burial will be held Monday, March 22, 2010, at noon in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Mrs. Merritt was a faithful member of Lafayette Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Charles Root; and a brother, John W. Root. She is survived by her husband, Walter L. Merritt of the home; sons, Walter Merritt and wife Rebecca of Fayetteville, and Phillip Scott Merritt and wife Lisa of Hamond, Ind.; brother, Timothy P. Root and wife Sharon of Wyantskill, N.Y.; sisters, Joyce Dombrosky and husband Stephen of East Poestenkill, N.Y., and Rebecca Lynn Root of Troy, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Andrew Merritt, Zachary Merritt, Amber Merritt, Jimmy Merritt and wife Sharon and Tina Merritt.
