Obituary

Lorraine Edwards Kirkwood, 82, of Eastover passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at her home with her family by her side.

Lorraine was born on September 19, 1942, in Dunn, N.C. to the late Paul R. Edwards and Eva Matilda Godwin Edwards.

After 28 years of service, she retired from Carolina Telephone Company where she worked as a service representative. In 1962, she joined Salem United Methodist Church and was involved in many activities within the church to include UMYF, Wednesday Night Suppers, Bake Sale and Interfaith Hospitality. She was also an active member of The Juanita Warren Group.

Lorraine had a love for cooking for family and friends, entertaining and hosting any event that her friends, family and church were involved.  She was a wonderful decorator and especially loved decorating for Christmas at her home and Salem Methodist Church.  She enjoyed painting ceramics, crocheting, making ornaments gardening, and listening to music, especially The Gaither's band and Elvis. Lorraine doted on her beloved poodle, Lucy.  Overall, Lorraine had a love of life, she was always smiling and enjoyed caring for her husband Bruce, children, Karen and Raymond and especially loved being "Nonnie" to her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:50 pm on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Salem Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Eva Edwards; brother, Darvin Edwards; sister, Anne Lyman; sisters-in-law, Joan Genty and Doris Thoreson; nephews, J.L. Tyndall and Tom Genty; and niece, Sherri Yates.

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bruce Kirkwood; daughter, Karen Jackson (Lee); son, Raymond Kirkwood (Denise); 6 grandchildren, Leslie Jackson, Jeremy Jackson, Alex Hurley (Brittany), Samantha Sallie (Brett), David Kirkwood (Candice), and Jill Kirkwood (Tyler); 12 great grandchildren, Aubrey Paschke, Aiyanna Rossi, Levi Carlisle, Wyatt Carlisle, William Hurley, Charlotte Hurley, Maverick Hurley, Gunner Hagan, Benson Sallie, Anderson Sallie, Gavin Thompson, and Alex Thompson; 1 great-great granddaughter, Riley Jackson; 1 great-great-great granddaughter, Kinsley Rodriguez; sister-in-law,  Edna Edwards; cousin, Martha Turner; nieces, Maureen Sevilla, Wanda Grove, Martha Tyndall, Janet Eggert, Cindy Ernhart, Terry Ohm, and Kathy McGinn; nephews, Joe Paul Edwards, Richard Genty, Jr., John Genty, and Jeff Thoreson.
