Mrs. Louise Pittman Walters, 96, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at the Carolina Inn.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015, at 3 pm in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Jeffery Thornberg and Rev. Ron Abrams presiding.The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:30 -3:00 p.m prior to the service at Holy Trinity Church. The burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.
Louise was born June 20, 1919, in Scotland Neck, NC, to the late Charles & Pauline Pittman; she was the youngest of 6 children. She worked with area banks over the years: Western Union, Commercial & Industrial Bank, and First Union.
She volunteered in Fayetteville hospitals for over 38 years; beginning at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in 1962 – she was volunteering in the Intensive Care Unit where families needed someone to talk to; she also volunteered in the gift shop. She volunteered at Cape Fear Valley Hospital and Highsmith Hospital for over 20 years.
Louise was the recipient of the Volunteer Award at the Cape Fear Valley Hospital SCAT 4th Annual Gala, May 11, 2000 and the Highsmith Rainey Memorial Hospital Internal Customer Satisfaction Award, June 2002.
She was a charter member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, established in 1951, where she worked on the altar guild for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Woodrow Walters, to whom she was married 23 years. She is survived by daughters, Gwendolyn Gilfus and husband Lynn of Fayetteville & Louise 'Ginger' Pack and husband Bradley of Concord; 5 grandsons: Quintin Gilfus and wife Jean Ann of Fayettville & Phillip Gilfus of Greensboro, Captain Douglas Pack and wife Katherine of Dameron, MD, Joseph Pack and wife, Meredith of Bowling Green, VA, and Thomas Pack of Concord; 3 great-grandchildren: Jennifer Lynn Pack, Thomas George Pack, Elizabeth June Pack, all of Dameron, MD; and brother: Vernon Pittman of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
